Eastern Imperial Roman Substantial Hollow Gold Finger-Ring

in the wide-shouldered style, set with an extraordinary sardonyx (onyx) banded agate cameo of the head of a ram in left profile, the background and the horn carved from white strata, while the head itself is rendered in the interceding black stratum.
